How To Store Coffee In A Container To Keep It Fresh For Long?
Coffee is best suggested to be stored in an opaque, airtight container to avoid the light to pass through the container as light affects the coffee and also to avoid direct sunlight and moisture, as sunshine can make the coffee to lose its natural flavor and humidity can affect the quality of the coffee as well as coffee starts to deteriorate early. Therefore, coffee should be stored in a cool, dark, and dry place to keep the coffee fresh for an extended period.
How To Store Coffee To Avoid Clumps And Hardening?
Generally, during monsoon season grounded coffee or coffee powder starts getting clumpy and later gets hard because of the moisture in the air that is attracted by the coffee, but the following things can be done to avoid this situation:-
1) Keep the coffee in an airtight container with a silica gel sachet as it helps in absorbing the moisture and keeping the coffee dry.
2) Make a small sachet of rice with a cotton cloth and add it to the container, rice has excellent absorbing properties which will keep the coffee moisture free and dry for long.
The Temperature At Which The Coffee Should Be Stored
Daily users of coffee are advised to keep the coffee at room temperature as keeping it at a low temperature in the refrigerator can attract moisture in the coffee which is not suitable for coffee and due to the frequent and continuous shift of coffee at low temperature and room temperature, it will reduce the shelf life of coffee and the flavor as well. Hence, coffee should be shelved at room temperature only.
How To Store Coffee For A Long Period?
To store coffee for a very long time it can be deep-frozen in a vacuum lock seal bag or an airtight container to avoid air to pass through, and this will keep the coffee preserved and fresh for an extended period, for up to 6 months. This is not advisable to regular coffee users.
Grounded coffee can stay fresh and last for about 3-5 months once opened, whereas coffee beans can be stored for up to 6 months at room temperature and up to 2 years in a deep freezer. Further instant coffee can last for about 12-18 months
However, it is better to buy coffee when required rather than storing it for too long, as stored coffee tends to lose its original contents after some time.
